Advanced analytics has become an essential tool for decision-making in sport, and this new alliance between Sports Data Campus and SD Ponferradina marks a significant step towards promoting the use of data and statistics in Spanish football, particularly in Primera RFEF. Founded in 1922, SD Ponferradina is a club with a rich history in Spanish football. Under the presidency of José Fernández Nieto since 2000, the club has experienced steady growth, both in sporting terms and in infrastructure and technology.

Student placements: Students on Sports Data Campus master’s programmes will be offered the opportunity to carry out placements in any of SD Ponferradina’s teams or categories. This experience will allow students to apply their knowledge in a real sports analytics environment.
Master’s final projects: Collaboration on final master’s projects will be encouraged. Sports Data Campus students will be able to propose projects that can be applied to SD Ponferradina teams. Each project will be defined jointly by both parties, and suitable candidates will be selected to carry it out.
Masterclasses and training: Masterclasses will be delivered to show Sports Data Campus students how sports analytics works within SD Ponferradina and its analytics ecosystem. This training will provide a unique view of how data is used in a grassroots football club.
It is also worth highlighting that an open line will be maintained to identify and take advantage of additional synergies that may arise as a result of this collaboration. Innovation and joint development will remain a constant focus.
