Sports Data Campus and Kognia Sports Intelligence joined forces in September 2021 to strengthen the education of professionals specialising in football data analysis.
The partnership brought Kognia’s expertise in artificial intelligence and automated, real-time tactical analysis into Sports Data Campus’s network of collaborators in sports data analytics.
Sports Data Campus and Kognia: Developing Football Data Analysis Professionals
Kognia would contribute its professional experience to several Sports Data Campus programmes, including the Master’s in Sports Big Data, the Master’s in Big Data Applied to Football Scouting, delivered in collaboration with Sevilla FC, and the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Sport, among others.
These master’s programmes were endorsed and certified by UCAM and designed to meet the needs of an increasingly professional, demanding and constantly evolving sports industry.
The two organisations planned to collaborate on initiatives including talent recruitment, training sessions and product demonstrations open to users. Students would benefit from educational content and a masterclass delivered by Maurici A. López Felip, CEO of Kognia.
By combining sport and education, the partnership would help students develop the skills needed to use data effectively in the analysis of tactical performance in football.
A Shared Commitment to Education and Innovation
Maurici A. López Felip explained:
“At Kognia Sports, we are very excited to join the Sports Data Campus project. Its proven experience in education will undoubtedly strengthen Kognia’s visibility within the sports ecosystem. We have an exciting challenge ahead, to which we hope to contribute all our knowledge. This is a long-term project at an established institution that is committed to education and innovation in sport.”

Artificial Intelligence for Real-Time Tactical Analysis
The original announcement described Kognia Sports Intelligence’s artificial intelligence software as unique in the market, enabling fully automated tactical analysis of the game. It highlighted a combination of capabilities that removed the need for manual processing while bringing greater objectivity to match analysis.
By operating in real time, the software was designed to support immediate decisions during matches, as well as speed up analysis before games, at half-time and after the final whistle.
The product was aimed primarily at professional football clubs, leagues, federations and media organisations. At the time of the announcement, its investors included Xavi Hernández and Iker Casillas, while coaches including Xavi, Paulo Sousa and Unai Emery had already used the technology to analyse their teams’ performance.
