Sports Data Campus and CD Berceo: Working Together to Strengthen Youth Football Through Data and Technology

The Sports Data Campus Approach

Sports Data Campus is not just an educational center; it is a platform that has worked to train professionals in data analysis applied to sport. Since its beginnings, it has forged alliances with sports teams at different levels, giving its students the opportunity to learn in a real and dynamic environment.

These alliances have enabled Sports Data Campus to evolve continuously, adapting its educational programs to market needs and ensuring that its graduates are prepared to face today’s challenges in the sports industry.

The institution has stood out for its practical approach and the quality of its programs. Its students not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also apply what they learn in real situations, often within football teams from different categories. Thanks to these opportunities, Sports Data Campus graduates are now professionals who add significant value in renowned clubs, driving data- and technology-based decision-making.

About CD Berceo

Club Deportivo Berceo, founded in 1948 in the city of Logroño, is an institution that has left a deep mark on Spanish youth football. Throughout its 75-year history, it has been a pillar in the development of young talent, standing out for its strong academy, which has an agreement with Real Sociedad de Fútbol.

The history of CD Berceo began with Luis Santos Cordón, affectionately known as “El Orejas”, who gave life to the club through his passion and dedication. From its early days, using kits made from sugar sack fabric, CD Berceo has grown into a benchmark in youth football.

Over the years, it has achieved significant milestones, including its first promotion to the Tercera División in 1985 and the consolidation of its youth tournament “Ciudad de Logroño”, which is the oldest continuously held youth tournament in Spain.

The club has adapted to the times, integrating new sporting disciplines and achieving important promotions in its youth categories. Today, CD Berceo remains a stronghold of football in La Rioja, with a clear focus on the training and development of young footballers, always seeking the balance between tradition and innovation.

The Collaboration Agreement

This agreement between Sports Data Campus and CD Berceo is a clear example of how education and sport can work hand in hand to generate synergies that benefit both parties. Sports Data Campus students will have the opportunity to undertake internships at CD Berceo, applying their knowledge of data analysis and technology in real situations.

This exchange will allow students to enjoy a unique experience, facing the challenges of a club that deeply values the development of youth talent.

In addition, CD Berceo will be able to propose Master’s Final Projects aligned with its sporting needs and objectives. These projects will be developed by Sports Data Campus students under the supervision of experienced tutors, ensuring optimal development and results that add value to the club.

CD Berceo professionals will also have the opportunity to share their experience by delivering MasterClass sessions to students, showing how analytics is applied in the youth football environment.

This agreement also opens the door to the joint creation of collaborative training courses in the future, designed to meet the needs of both CD Berceo and Sports Data Campus. These initiatives will not only strengthen the relationship between both institutions, but will also contribute to the continuous growth and development of grassroots football in Spain.

“For C.D. Berceo, this represents a step forward in improving the performance of our 3rd R.F.E.F. team, as with the help of Sports Data Campus, we will be able to improve the infrastructure of our new technologies area. This agreement will enhance our video analysis and data analysis of both our own matches and our opponents during the 3rd R.F.E.F. season.

At the same time, all of the club’s youth teams will benefit from the agreement, as the new technologies area will be able to cover more teams for the use and improvement of both video analysis and Big Data. We are very proud to work hand in hand with Sports Data Campus, the leading company in the field of specialized training in advanced analytics applied to football, Big Data and sports technology worldwide,” commented Esteban Rubio Ochoa, President of C.D. Berceo.

In the words of David Sáez, CEO of Sports Data Campus: “We have always maintained that Data Analysis has no category limits and that any club wishing to implement analytics ecosystems can do so. It simply takes conviction, willingness, finding properly trained professionals and, above all, the vision that objective information is another weapon at the service of generating competitive advantages and protecting athletes.

In addition, the case of C.D. Berceo is special because it was one of our postgraduate alumni who contacted us so that we could collaborate with the Club in the development of this Area.

I am sure that our students will enjoy an unbeatable environment in which to develop high-impact projects within the Club, in a category where, as I have always argued, the development and implementation of analytics systems has an infinitely greater impact than in the elite, where most clubs already have them.

I do not want to miss the opportunity to thank both the President, Esteban Rubio, and Borja Lerma for choosing to rely on us to make this collaboration agreement possible.”
