Handball.ai, known for empowering handball coaches through advanced statistics and Big Data, is partnering with Sports Data Campus to support the sport’s development through data and the exchange of strategic information.
Handball.ai has emerged as a pioneering company in handball. At the time of the August 2023 announcement, it drew on the expertise of more than 25 analysts of different nationalities, all certified coaches. Its work aims to improve the sport as a whole and make statistics and data analysis accessible both to experts and to newcomers. This demonstrates its commitment to making the sport more accessible and empowering players and coaching staff at every level. Sports Data Campus announces this technology partnership as part of its commitment to keeping pace with the latest technologies and providing students with innovative, high-quality content through leading partners.
Sports Data Campus and Handball.ai Forge a Partnership
Handball.ai began its project in 2020 to offer the best possible experience to platform users seeking to work with handball statistics and build their own digital databases. The tool brings together knowledge from assistant coaches, players, sports analysts and federations to help professionalise handball.
It was designed for youth development coordinators, coaches working in second divisions, amateur coaches and professional teams. Users can work with advanced statistics, analyse opponents’ performance through the dashboard and create databases. The platform also supports federations and national teams seeking to monitor their athletes’ performance.
David R. Sáez, CEO of Sports Data Campus, said: “This agreement reinforces Sports Data Campus’s commitment to bringing Big Data and advanced analytics to the major sports, and handball is undoubtedly one of them. Through this work, Sports Data Campus students will have the opportunity to work on real, innovative projects with strong practical applications in professional handball. I would personally like to thank Manel Cirac, CEO of Handball.ai, for making this possible.”
Sports Data Campus students will have the opportunity to work on real, innovative projects with strong practical applications in professional handball.
The agreement announced in 2023 brings both organisations together to develop technology in the service of sport, specifically handball. It envisaged opportunities for students on Sports Data Campus master’s programmes to undertake professional internships at Handball.ai, applying what they had learned to the platform’s needs. Experts and team members would also be able to deliver masterclasses, drawing on their experience and the information gathered over recent years to deepen students’ understanding of data and its applications.
“We are enormously proud to work alongside Sports Data Campus, with the aim of making advanced statistics and Big Data straightforward and accessible to students and organisations. We want to develop our sport not only through advanced statistics, but also by providing scouting tools to analyse systems, players and teams. Working together will help us move forward: Sports Data Campus students will collaborate with a recognised brand in handball, while we will discover new possibilities and features that could only be developed with Sports Data Campus!” said Manel Cirac, CEO of Handball.ai.
The partnership also aims to increase handball’s popularity by making statistics more engaging and understandable to a wider audience. Using data and technological tools to accelerate player development could be a valuable incentive for the platform’s different users, and master’s students can apply their knowledge to help achieve this.
The collaboration also envisaged opportunities for Sports Data Campus students to propose final master’s projects relevant to a specific area of Handball.ai or spanning several areas. Both organisations would jointly define each project’s scope, share it with interested students and receive applications. One or more supervisors would be appointed to support successful project delivery. An open channel of collaboration would also be maintained to explore further opportunities arising from the partnership.
