Sports Data Campus continues to invest in the future. As a new edition of our programmes approaches, we continue to establish collaborations. Our new partner, Spiideo, will contribute its professional expertise to the Máster en Big Data Deportivo, the Máster en Big Data aplicado al Scouting en el fútbol, delivered in collaboration with Sevilla FC, and the Máster en Big Data aplicado a la Preparación Física en Fútbol, among others.

Spiideo: Automated Cloud-Based Video Analysis and Streaming for Sport

Founded in Malmö, southern Sweden, in 2012, Spiideo was described in the September 2022 announcement as a leading provider of automated cloud-based solutions for sports video analysis and streaming, with an international presence across Europe, North America and Asia. As demand for data in sport grows, Spiideo focuses on making video and data accessible through automation. Closer integration between video and AI-generated data enables these systems to monitor play and alert coaches to tactical and performance advantages.

Spiideo’s fixed and mobile camera systems for indoor and outdoor sports integrate directly through the cloud with Spiideo Perform for analysis and Spiideo Play for automated broadcasting. Features such as AutoFollow, AutoData™ and virtual panorama technology provide users with a comprehensive set of tools to take their video analysis to the next level.

The announcement highlighted the ability to view the entire playing area with full control of the virtual camera. Combined with AutoData™, Spiideo was presented at the time as the world’s only video analysis platform offering automated live tagging and player tracking. AutoData™ automatically generates live data, enabling Spiideo Perform users to extract clips, data, statistics, events and insights to support opposition analysis, tactical planning and player development — capabilities that can make the difference between winning and losing.

With a Spiideo camera installed, game event data and individual player tracking data can be captured automatically, live and continuously throughout football matches. As play unfolds, the technology captures events such as goals, shots, corners and cards; individual player statistics such as distance covered, high-intensity runs and running speeds; and precise positional data.

The addition of AutoData™ to Spiideo Perform was presented as a way to make advanced video analysis available to teams and leagues worldwide, providing match data at an unprecedented scale without being limited by the availability of analysts. According to the announcement, player tracking and match breakdown services enabled Spiideo customers to request data for any match, played at any time, anywhere in the world.

At the time of the September 2022 announcement, more than 2,000 organisations used Spiideo, including teams in the Premier League, NHL, Serie A, MLS, NBA, Ligue 1, NCAA and Bundesliga. Customers also included the USL, NWSL, SEC, Sweden’s Allsvenskan, Iceland’s Pepsi Max League, Denmark’s Metal Ligaen and various rights holders across Europe and North America.
